How we picked these TikTok history channels
We started from history creators named in press coverage and on TikTok itself, then opened each public profile on October 7, 2026 to confirm the handle, follower count, likes, and verified badge. We favored creators with history training or a named institution behind them, and we checked each creator's background against their own site, publisher, or an independent profile. If we could not confirm an official account, as with OverSimplified, we left it off instead of guessing.
Short-form history has a real accuracy problem, which we unpack in is short-form history accurate?. Follower count is not a fact-check. Use these channels as a starting point, then follow up with the books, documentaries, and courses many of them point to.
1. Alice Loxton: Who is the most credible history creator on TikTok?
Alice Loxton (@history_alice) is a British historian, author, and broadcaster. From 2019 to 2023 she was a presenter, producer, and scriptwriter at History Hit, making documentaries about sites like the Roman Baths and Salisbury Cathedral. She has since written three books: UPROAR! (2023), on Georgian satirical printmakers; Eighteen (2024), a Sunday Times bestseller and Blackwell's Book of the Year; and Eleanor, on Eleanor of Castile and the Eleanor Crosses. She is a National Trust ambassador.
On TikTok she posts heritage, art, and British history, often filmed at the place itself. On our October 7, 2026 check the account had about 981,000 followers and 17.2 million likes, with a verified badge. We rank her first because the training, the published work, and the on-platform format all point the same way.
Pros
- Trained historian with three published books
- Verified, ~981K followers
- On-location heritage and art history
- Her books let you follow up in depth
Cons
- Mostly British history
- Short clips, not full arguments
- Book and partner promotion in the mix
- Less on non-European history
Best for: anyone who wants a credentialed historian in their feed. Skip if: you mostly want world or military history. Watch @history_alice on TikTok.
2. Dr Amy Boyington: Which historian has the biggest following on TikTok?
Dr Amy Boyington (@history_with_amy) describes herself as a historian, author, and presenter, and her professional profile lists a role as Senior Properties Historian at English Heritage (2022 to 2023). Her clips range across royal, political, and social history; a widely shared 2023 video covers the reign of Queen Ranavalona I of Madagascar. She also writes a Substack, History with Amy.
On our October 7, 2026 check she had about 1.2 million followers and 51.3 million likes, the largest individual history-creator audience we found. The account did not show a verified badge.
Pros
- ~1.2M followers, 51.3M likes
- Historian with heritage-sector experience
- Wide range of periods and places
- Substack for longer reads
Cons
- No verified badge on our check
- Short format trims context
- Topic choice follows what performs
- Book promotion in the mix
Best for: a broad daily history habit from a trained historian. Skip if: you want one period in depth. Watch @history_with_amy on TikTok.
3. Kahlil Greene (Gen Z Historian): Who is the Gen Z Historian on TikTok?
Kahlil Greene (@kahlilgreene) is the "Gen Z Historian." He graduated from Yale with a history degree and was Yale College's first Black student body president. His first TikTok, posted on MLK Day 2021, argued that Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy had been whitewashed, and it passed a million views in a day. He followed with series like "Hidden History" and now writes the newsletter History Can't Hide. TIME named him one of the 100 most important people on the internet in 2025, per his own bio.
On our October 7, 2026 check the account had about 711,000 followers and 13.8 million likes, with a verified badge. Expect argument, not neutral narration: that is the point of the channel, and worth knowing before you treat a clip as the whole story.
Pros
- Yale history degree
- Verified, ~711K followers
- Strong on American race, culture, and politics
- Newsletter for longer pieces
Cons
- Openly argumentative framing
- Mostly US-focused
- Commentary mixes with history
- Short clips compress debates
Best for: American history with a clear thesis. Skip if: you want neutral, survey-style narration. Watch @kahlilgreene on TikTok.
4. The History Gossip (Katie Kennedy): What's the funniest history channel on TikTok?
Katie Kennedy (@thehistorygossip) studied Ancient History and Archaeology at Durham and, as of early 2025, was studying for a history MA at Oxford. Her account took off with "Was Anne of Cleves a Minger?", and she leaned into Horrible Histories-style humor from there. She says her videos run about a minute. Her book, The History Gossip, turns the format into one historical curiosity for each day of the year.
On our October 7, 2026 check the account had about 654,000 followers and 19.6 million likes, with a verified badge. She is candid about the trade-off: she has said she is glad when viewers learn from her, "as long as they're not quoting what I'm saying word for word."
Pros
- Verified, ~654K followers
- Genuinely funny
- Social history beyond kings and queens
- Trained in history and archaeology
Cons
- Comedy first, nuance second
- The creator herself warns against quoting verbatim
- About a minute per topic
- Heavy on Tudor and Georgian gossip
Best for: people who think they find history boring. Skip if: you want something to cite. Watch @thehistorygossip on TikTok.
5. HISTORY: What is the biggest history account on TikTok?
HISTORY (@history) is the official account of the History Channel, part of A+E Networks. On our October 7, 2026 check it had about 2.3 million followers and 28.9 million likes, with a verified badge: the biggest history account we found, ahead of every individual creator here.
It is a brand account, not a person, so expect network-style packaging and a TV catalog behind it rather than one historian's voice. If you want the long versions, the network's ad-free catalog is HISTORY Vault, which we review in apps like Curiosity Stream.
Pros
- Verified, ~2.3M followers
- Backed by a TV network catalog
- Broad range of topics
- Consistent production values
Cons
- Brand account, no single historian
- Network tone over scholarly framing
- Points you toward TV products
- Few sources named on screen
Best for: casual viewers who like the History Channel. Skip if: you want a named historian you can hold to account. Watch @history on TikTok.

6. History Hit: Is History Hit on TikTok?
Yes. History Hit (@historyhit) is the TikTok account of the history network founded by Dan Snow; its bio promotes "exclusive original films released weekly" and its podcast network. On our October 7, 2026 check it had about 521,000 followers and 6.1 million likes, with a verified badge.
Treat it as a trailer feed: clips from historian-presented documentaries and podcasts, with the full versions behind the History Hit subscription. We compare that subscription with its rivals in apps like History Hit.
Pros
- Verified, ~521K followers
- Historian-presented material
- Full documentaries available off-platform
- Podcast tie-ins
Cons
- Partly a promo feed for a paid app
- Clips cut from longer films
- Brand account voice
- Mostly British and military history
Best for: finding documentaries worth watching in full. Skip if: you don't want subscription nudges. Watch @historyhit on TikTok.
7. Mary McGillivray (The Iconoclass): What's the best art history account on TikTok?
Mary McGillivray (@_theiconoclass) is an Australian art historian with a Masters in History of Art and Architecture from the University of Cambridge. She is a PhD candidate at the University of Melbourne and writes and presents for the ABC. Her TikTok covers "art history and visual culture": symbols, iconography, and the stories inside paintings.
On our October 7, 2026 check the account had about 441,000 followers and 12.3 million likes, with a verified badge. It is narrower than the rest of this list, but it is the strongest pick if paintings are your way into the past.
Pros
- Verified, ~441K followers
- Cambridge-trained art historian
- Teaches you to read images yourself
- Museum and gallery collaborations
Cons
- Art history, not general history
- Narrower topic range
- Short clips on dense subjects
- Little political or military history
Best for: museum-goers and anyone who likes Old Masters. Skip if: you want wars and empires. Watch @_theiconoclass on TikTok.
8. Kings and Generals: Is there a good military history channel on TikTok?
Kings and Generals (@kingsandgenerals) is "the official TikTok account for the Kings and Generals channel," the YouTube channel known for animated historical documentaries about battles and campaigns, with about 4.2 million YouTube subscribers. On TikTok it had about 201,000 followers and 2.7 million likes on our October 7, 2026 check; the account did not show a verified badge.
The short cuts work as trailers for the long YouTube videos, some of which run for hours. If maps and troop movements are what hook you, this is the pick.
Pros
- Official account of a ~4.2M-subscriber channel
- Animated maps and battle movements
- Deep long-form library on YouTube
- Wide range of eras
Cons
- No verified badge on our check
- Military history focus
- Clips often tease the YouTube video
- Smaller TikTok audience
Best for: military-history fans. Skip if: you want social or cultural history. Watch @kingsandgenerals on TikTok.
9. Crash Course: Is Crash Course on TikTok?
Yes, at @crashcourse, with a verified badge and about 101,000 followers and 900,000 likes on our October 7, 2026 check. Its bio sums it up: "High-quality educational videos. Free, for everyone, forever." Crash Course is run by John and Hank Green through their company Complexly.
The TikTok is small next to the YouTube channel, which carries full World History and US History series. Use TikTok for discovery and YouTube for the course. We cover it as a learning tool in learn history in 10 minutes a day.
Pros
- Verified
- Free, structured World and US History courses
- Trusted classroom brand
- Covers far more than history
Cons
- Second-smallest TikTok audience here
- Not history-only
- The real value is on YouTube
- Fewer history posts on TikTok
Best for: students and anyone who wants a syllabus after the clip. Skip if: you want a history-only feed. Watch @crashcourse on TikTok.
10. Dr Jean Menzies: Who covers ancient history and mythology on TikTok?
Dr Jean Menzies (@jeansthoughts) is a Scottish ancient historian and author who completed her PhD in 2022 on gender, myth, and rhetoric in Ancient Greece. Her bio says she talks about "books, films, mythology & history," so expect myth retellings and pop-culture takes checked against the ancient sources.
She is the smallest account here, at about 70,000 followers and 1.7 million likes on our October 7, 2026 check, with no verified badge. We include her because ancient myth is one of TikTok's most garbled topics, and she has the training to untangle it.
Pros
- PhD in ancient Greek myth and rhetoric
- Published author
- Good antidote to myth misinformation
- Longer videos on YouTube
Cons
- Smallest audience on the list
- No verified badge on our check
- Mixes books and film with history
- Ancient world only
Best for: mythology fans who want the sources, not the fan theories. Skip if: you want modern history. Watch @jeansthoughts on TikTok.
